Here are some of the most common tech support questions we get from TLG users. TLG is an older Windows interface to TSP; an alternative to GiveWin.

    General

  1. On Windows XP, when I run TSP from TLG, I get the following message:
    There is not enough space on drive C:\ to process your TSP batch file. Please move your file to a different drive and try again.
    I know there is plenty of free space on my hard drive. What is going wrong? ANSWER
  2. Does TLG run under Windows 98? ANSWER
  3. Does TLG run under beta versions of Windows NT 5.0? ANSWER

    Problems Getting Started

  9. I tried to install TSP and the installer won't let me past the first screen. After I enter my name and serial number, the "Next" button won't become active. What am I doing wrong? ANSWER
  10. While installing TSP 4.4 I got an error message telling me "Error: Following file failed to self-register: c:\windows\system\emedit32.ocx". What does this mean? ANSWER
  11. Whenever I try to open or make a new file using TLG, nothing happens! Why?! ANSWER
  12. I installed TSP 4.4, but when I try to use TLG, all I get is an error message saying "Unexpected error; quitting". What on earth is going on? ANSWER
  13. I installed TSP 4.4, but every time I try to open a file using TLG, it tells me I need TLG 97. Why?! ANSWER

  16. I installed TSP 4.4 for Windows 3.1. TSP 4.4 works fine, but when I try to open a file using TLG, an hourglass appears but then nothing happens. Why? ANSWER
  17. I installed TSP 4.4, but whenever I try to open a file in TLG, I get an error message saying I have the wrong version of the CTL3D32.DLL. What is this file and why did the wrong version get installed? ANSWER
  18. I installed TSP 4.4 but when I try to use TLG, I get an error message "Run-time error 31037". What happened? ANSWER
  19. My copy of TLG 97 always freezes on startup and I have to use the Task Manager to get rid of it. Why does this happen? ANSWER
  20. I downloaded TLG 1.10 but it tells me my copy of TSP isn't version 4.4, when I know perfectly well it is! Why does it do this? ANSWER

    Opening & Saving Files

  24. Every time I open a batch file, a progress bar appears on the screen and the window goes blank for a while. Why does it take so long for TLG to open my file? ANSWER
  25. I have a batch file I want to run with TLG, but it won't find it even though I know it's there! ANSWER
  26. I looked in the directory where I store my batch files and saw a file named TSP00001.tsp. What is it? Is it important? Can I delete it? ANSWER
  27. Whenever I open a TSP batch file I (or someone else) created on a Mac OS or Unix system, all the carriage returns show up as little black boxes. How can I change this? ANSWER
  28. I want to give my TSP files to a person using Unix or Mac. Will they be able to read them? ANSWER
  29. I opened a .TSP file in my word processor so I could print it and none of the formatting was there! How do I preserve the font formatting in my TSP input and output files? ANSWER
  30. I'm using Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows NT and I'm having trouble distinguishing my input and batch files. They both have the same name and I can't see the .TSP or .OUT extensions. ANSWER

    Customizing TLG

  31. I like the fact that TLG colorizes my batch files, but I don't like the colors it chooses. Can I change them? ANSWER
  32. Where are the underlined letters in TLG's menus? ANSWER
  33. Sometimes when I change the default font size for my input or output windows, nothing seems to change. ANSWER
  34. I prefer a DOS-style text editing look, e.g., white letters on a black background. Can I change the default background and font color of the input and output windows? ANSWER
  35. What are those pluses that sometimes appear in the window title bars? ANSWER

    Using TLG

  36. Every time I run a batch file, TLG tells me TSP doesn't have enough memory to run. But I have 32MB and no other programs are running! Help! ANSWER
  37. Sometimes when I run my TSP program, TLG tells me it has to "Convert rogue ascii characters" and it takes a very long time. Why does this happen and how can I speed it up? ANSWER
  38. Can I use TLG in interactive mode? ANSWER
  39. Can I cancel a batch run once it's started? ANSWER
  40. Can I run two (or more) batch files at once? ANSWER
  41. What does the "Replace all in currently open files" option in the Find/Replace dialog mean? ANSWER
  42. I selected Contents from the Help menu and I got an error message saying the help files could not be found. Where are they? ANSWER
  43. What's the difference between TLG 97 and TLG 1.02? ANSWER

    Printing

  46. I want to have different headers and footers for each of my batch files. Whenever I change a header or footer for a document, the change applies to all my documents. Why does this happen? ANSWER
  47. Why can't I print from TLG for Windows 3.1? ANSWER

    Error Messages

  48. Suddenly my copy of TLG has stopped working. Whenever I try to open or make a new batch file, it tells me I need to get TLG 97. What did I do to deserve this?! ANSWER
  49. All of the sudden my copy of TLG has stopped working. Whenever I try to open or make a new batch file, I get a dialog box with a cat saying "Error 387 property cannot be set". What did I do to deserve this?! ANSWER

    Mac OS

  50. I want to use TLG on my Mac. Can I get TSP for Windows 95/NT and run it under Virtual PC? ANSWER
