TSP 5.0 for Mac OS X - notes on installation and usage (2006-03-30) 1. Installation: - insert the CD in your CD drive; a CD icon with TSP50 should appear on the desktop - drag the TSP50_OSX folder to your desktop to copy the files from the CD 2. Contents of TSP50_OSX folder: - Mac TSP 5.0 - standard interface application (see below) - tsp - Terminal version - doc (folder) - PDF versions of the TSP 5.0 User's Guide and TSP 5.0 Reference Manual - examples (folder) - example input files. Includes files used for examples in the TSP 5.0 User's Guide at present. - help (folder) - help system, both plain HTML version and .CHM version (CHM may not be supported on your Mac) - illus50.tsp - example input file (plain text - can view/edit with TextEdit ) - aaa_readme.txt - this document. 3. Two versions of TSP 5.0 are supplied on the CD: 3.1 Mac TSP 5.0 - standard interface application This has a standard Open File dialog box when it starts up: - to run TSP in interactive mode, press Esc or click on [Cancel] - to run TSP in batch mode, on a plain text .TSP file which you have already created: 1. Make sure the file is in the TSP50_OSX folder. (You can select files in other folders, but TSP will not open them - TSP will say "file does not exist") **** We realize this does not work as expected, but it is the best we can do with the Open File dialog box at present, sorry. **** 2. To select a .TSP file, first change the Show/Enable box from "All Readable Documents" to "All Documents" 3. Then double click on the .TSP file, or single click and press Return or click on [Open] After TSP finishes the run, the .OUT file will be in the TSP50_OSX folder. It is plain text and can be viewed with TextEdit or programs like Word (use a non-proportional font like Courier or Elite). This version has color graphics in the PLOT and GRAPH commands. Click the mouse or hit any key to close the graph window. To make a larger graph window, maximize the "tspm output" window before using the PLOT or GRAPH command. There is no capability to save or print the graph window at present. Also, the panel graphics is not implemented at present, but it can be implemented if there is interest. 3.2 tsp - Terminal version If you have a recent version of MacOS X, this will appear as a solid green rectangular icon with a green border. You can just double-click on it if you want to run it from the TSP50_OSX folder. Otherwise, you can use the Terminal application (in /Applications/Utilities ) to run it. It is best to copy this to a directory in your path, such as /usr/bin , so that you can run it from any directory, and keep data files with the .TSP files in that directory. It works just like a standard unix or Linux version of TSP: tsp filename reads filename.tsp and creates filename.out . This version does not have graphics. Any text files you create will have LF as the end-of-line character. There is a way to change this with a setenv command - ask us if you need to do this. Mac TSP 5.0 can read text files with commands and free format data with all types of end-of-line character (LF, CR or CR-LF). To read data with a Fortran style format, the data must be in an external text file, with an LF at the end of each line.
