TSP Newsletter – January 2010

TSP International is pleased to announce that TSP 5.1 and TSP 5.1/Oxmetrics 6 were released in the Fall of 2009. With this new release, the website has also been completely updated, and the price list slightly revised due to increased costs and the new version release. Newly revised manuals (User’s Guide and Reference Manual) are also available on our website in pdf form.

Please contact us at info@tspintl.com if you wish to order the program. As usual, upgrades are cheaper: from Version 5.0 costs a quarter of the full price and from Version 4.5 costs half the full price, slightly more if you are upgrading from Givewin to Oxmetrics at the same time. See the website http://tspintl.com/order/prices.htm for details

What’s new in Version 5.1 of TSP

TSP now runs in the latest Oxmetrics™ (6) shell on Windows machines, giving the program access to a greater variety of graphics formats as well as the usual easy color-coded editing and running of the program.

New and enhanced procedures:

·         Panel robust standard errors for the PANEL, LSQ, ML, and Probit procedures – these are automatic when the FREQ (PANEL… option is on.

·         Generalized Impulse Response computation in VAR, plus improved plotting of the forecasts using Oxmetrics graphics. Here is an example TSP run and output, plus one of the graphs produced by the program.

·         Enhanced iteration in LAD and LMS, looking for multiple solutions.

·         The Log Likelihood has been added to LIML to facilitate testing across models.

·         FORM now creates unnormalized equations, which are used in LSQ (GMM, SUR, 3SLS, etc.).

·         Enhancements to SORT for speed and to ensure preservation of order in multiple sorts.

·         FIML is now faster in some cases.

·         A new nonlinear option for stepsize improves iteration behavior.

·         New linear programming command LP.

·         ANALYZ for functions of series - output and options have been enhanced.

·         Circle graphs (where each data point’s importance is represented by circle size).

General program improvements:

·         Greatly improved Excel spreadsheet reading – more versions, and multiple sheets.

·         Reading of Stata dta files up to Version 10.

·         SHOW SERIES output has been improved.

·         Reading up to 500 characters per line interactively (used to be 80)

·         End-of-line characters in batch files can be any combination of LF and CR (for unix/MAC compatibility)

·         Matrices can be row and column labelled when printed.

·         Decimal style dates for quarterly and monthly frequencies, allowing computation using the dates.

·         Long programs with loops run more efficiently.
